Description
Navigators Art is a network of York-based artists, writers, musicians and performers.
We are non-discriminatory and oppose bigotry in any form, working hard to achieve gender balance and across-the-board inclusivity in all our events and activities.
Our primary mission is to work with community groups and projects, to enhance and creatively interpret their activities for a wider audience.
Since May 2022 we've been involved with the StreetLife project, York Theatre Royal, York Trailblazers, Explore York and the annual Festival of Ideas.
In 2002-2003 we were granted a three-month residency at the StreetLife project in Coney Street.
Our sculpture for York Bid, commemorating York-born poet W. H. Auden, was chosen to stand outside York Council's West Offices and can be seen near the 2012 Auden memorial.
In June 2024 we devised the first Micklegate Arts Trail, a collaborative project between local businesses and artists. This was repeated in 2025 and we have plans to grow it further in 2026.
We also stage art exhibitions and live spoken word and music events, often themed. A highlight last year was Co-Audenation, a creative tribute to the poet in words, music, and performance art.
YO Underground, our showcase for experimental musicians, writers and performers, welcomes audiences regularly at City Screen's Basement venue.
We run a free art workshop on the first Sunday of each month at The Artful Dodger in Micklegate, and an Open Mic night for writers and acoustic musicians at the same venue every third Thursday of the month.
Please visit our social media pages for details of all our activities, and our TicketSource page for full information and booking https://_www._ticketsource.co.uk/_navigators-art-performance (remove the three _ !)
We welcome enquiries from potential collaborators, particularly those who are less established or underrepresented, and who have no regular platform for displaying their work.
We mentor new musicians, artists, poets/spoken word, comics and other performers, giving them an opportunity to work alongside more established names.
